Hampshire Medical Fund
The Hampshire Medical Fund has been supporting local NHS hospitals in Hampshire for over 40 years. Founded in 1981 by the late Earl of Carnarvon, the charity was created with a simple but powerful aim: to help our hospitals provide the very best care for patients by funding cutting-edge medical equipment that sits beyond standard NHS budgets.
We proudly support Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, Royal Hampshire County Hospital, Winchester and Andover War Memorial Hospital — hospitals that care for thousands of people across our community every day, often at the most critical moments in their lives.
As NHS funding pressures continue to increase, the work of the Hampshire Medical Fund has never been more important. While our hospitals are home to exceptional doctors, nurses and therapists, limited budgets can restrict access to the latest life-saving technology. We exist to help bridge that gap.
By raising funds for pioneering medical equipment, we enable faster diagnoses, more effective treatments and improved patient outcomes.

How your support makes a difference
Every pound raised by the Hampshire Medical Fund is allocated to a specific piece of equipment from our annual medical ‘wish list’, which is carefully reviewed and approved by our medical trustees. As soon as an item is fully funded, it is purchased — often meaning that within weeks, lives across our community are being improved, and sometimes even saved.
Over the past 10 years alone, we have funded more than 165 pieces of vital medical equipment, totalling over £5 million, for our three local hospitals.

Equipment Appeals
The equipment we buy for Hampshire Hospitals can range from a £663 Doppler monitor critical for paediatric care to a £200,000 piece of surgical equipment for the Interventional Radiology team. Last year we helped fund a state-of-the-art robotic-assisted surgical system at Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. Hampshire Hospitals was the first in the UK to use this new generation system, which was the most advanced and integrated system of its type available.
