YOUR DONATIONS IN ACTION! Sonosite Edge II for Vascular Department

The Vascular Department in Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital recently received a fantastic new Sonosite Edge II Ultrasound Machine thanks to the work and fundraising efforts of the Hampshire Medical Fund. This ultrasound machine will be used for the examination of veins, blood vessels and arteries.

There are a number of benefits that the Sonosite Edge II can bring to the vascular department. Primarily, the equipment is a lot smaller than its predecessor, making it mobile enough to move from one location to another with ease. This will be of massive convenience to both the doctors and patients who use this machinery; previously the ultrasound machines would be fixed  pieces of equipment, unable to be transported between departments. This meant that outpatients in a different department who were referred for an ultrasound would have needed to make a separate appointment and return to the hospital at a later date. Now though, thanks to the mobility of this equipment, the Sonosite is a “one stop service” which allows patients to have their ultrasound done on the same day of referral.

In regards to the Hampshire Medical Fund’s involvement in purchasing the equipment, Dr Stephen Tristram from the Vascular Department at Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital said:

“We couldn’t have done it without them. It’s as simple as that. I was really pleased when I got an e-mail saying that our funding application had been approved. It changed my life.”
