Race on to collect as many Easter eggs as possible for the North Hampshire Medical Fund

  • More than 3,800 chocolate eggs have been donated to charities since the Access Self Storage Easter appeal launched in 2011
  • Stacked end-to-end, the chocolate eggs collected would reach twice the height of The Shard
  • Access Self Storage Basingstoke is hoping to smash this egg count in time for Easter, giving their egg haul to the North Hampshire Medical Fund

Since the very first Access Self Storage Easter Egg Appeal in 2011, more than 3,800 chocolate eggs have been collected for dozens of UK charities, weighing in at more than a ton of chocolate. This year, Access Self Storage Basingstoke wants to help beat this egg-ceptional Easter Egg record for the North Hampshire Medical Fund.

To help do so, local residents and businesses are invited to take part by visiting the store and dropping off chocolate eggs for the charity at reception. All donations collected in Basingstoke will be kept safe and given to the North Hampshire Medical Fund, which raises funds for advanced medical equipment for Basingstoke Hospital that the NHS could not otherwise afford.

Access Self Storage Basingstoke store manager Mike Blaszkowicz said: “Last year my team collected 160 eggs for the Frimley Park Hospital Children’s Ward. This year, we want to beat this amount for the North Hampshire Medical Fund. We are hoping to fill our store room with chocolate eggs of all shapes and sizes which can be raffled off to raise money to support the amazing work they do.”

Staff have already begun collecting eggs and people are invited to bring donations into the Basingstoke store on Rankine Road any time before March 26th, when a delivery will be made to North Hampshire Medical Fund in time for Easter.

In 2017, the 900+ chocolate eggs collected by Access Self Storage were shared among 10 charities across the UK including The Children’s Trust, Rennie Grove Hospice, Evelina London, the Children’s Adventure Farm Trust and The Salvation Army.

The most generous regions donating to the 2017 Easter Egg Appeal were Camberley with a record 160 eggs, Portsmouth close behind with 152, Mitcham with 124 and Southampton with 109.

If stacked box-upon-box, the amount of chocolate eggs collected by Access Self Storage for charities to date would reach twice the height of The Shard, Britain’s tallest building.
