This equipment will allow Basingstoke Hospital to set up a service providing thoracoscopy on the lining of the lung on an outpatient basis. This is a minimally invasive surgical technique used to diagnose lung and other chest cancers, remove excess fluid from the lungs following pneumonia and various other key interventions following a variety of serious illnesses and infections. Currently patients must travel to Winchester hospital and stay overnight for this procedure. This equipment will mean patients can be seen locally and will improve the speed and effectiveness of both diagnosis and treatment.
