A Resuscitaire provides breathing support, warmth, oxygen, suction and other key interventions for newborn babies in the desperate position of needing resuscitation and emergency medical treatment in the first minutes and hours of their lives. The models currently used in the Basingstoke, Winchester and Andover neo-natal, post-natal and maternity departments are over 15 years old. Not only has technology advanced dramatically since they were purchased but the machines are now starting to break down. There has been a degree of ‘making do’ over the last few years but sadly the parts for these machines are no longer being manufactured. Ultimately, there is a need for 22 of these incredible pieces of equipment across the Trust and they cost around £8000 to £11,000 each.
