Funds raised towards this project will buy a revolutionary, unique device that allows the easy, fast, measurement of lung disease with just a few normal breaths using an approach called the Forced Oscillation Technique (FOT). This can be achieved in children as young as two years of age through to very elderly patients who struggle with the more complex breathing tests currently available in Hampshire.
This innovative technique will help diagnose very early lung disease in adults and children that other breathing tests cannot. It will therefore help thousands of adults by identifying COPD before symptoms develop and both children and adults with very mild asthma that may benefit from therapy.
This equipment is vital to improving the respiratory health of patients across Hampshire and is particularly key in light of the significant long term issues stemming from COVID 19 in this area of medicine.
