CT scans are a vital diagnostic tool. PIQE is an advanced imaging software developed by Canon Medical that can be installed on HHFT’s new PRISM CT scanners in Basingstoke and Winchester Hospitals. Using artificial intelligence and deep learning technology, PIQE enhances the sharpness and clarity of CT images thereby providing Super Resolution images for cardiac, lung and body examinations with increased spatial resolution and excellent low contrast detectability, revealing finer anatomical detail.
This is especially valuable for coronary CT imaging, and for older patients with calcified arteries or coronary stents, where image clarity can be more challenging.
By improving image quality, PIQE will enable more patients to receive a clear and confident diagnosis from a single scan, reducing the need for additional tests or invasive angiography. In the past year alone, 634 patients underwent coronary CT scans across Winchester and Basingstoke — a number that continues to grow.
Key Benefits
- Sharper, AI-Enhanced Imaging – Uses deep learning to maximise CT image resolution.
• Greater Diagnostic Confidence – Clearer detail improves accuracy of interpretation.
• Reduces Need for Invasive Tests – Fewer patients may require diagnostic angiography.
• Particularly Valuable for Cardiac Imaging – Enhances clarity in calcified vessels and stented arteries.
• Maximises Existing Investment – Unlocks the full potential of HHFT’s new CT scanners.
• Future-Focused Technology – Available only on the latest generation Canon CT systems.
By installing PIQE software on CT scanners in Winchester and Basingstoke, HHFT will harness cutting-edge AI technology to deliver faster, more accurate cardiac diagnoses — ensuring patients benefit fully from the most advanced imaging available close to home.
