Project Description
Funds raised towards this project will help with the purchase of a new Bowel Disease Marker Analyser for the Pathology Department at Basingstoke and North Hampshire Hospital.
The Pledia from Mast Diagnostics analyses faecal samples to look for tiny traces of blood. If present this can be an early marker for bowel cancer. Having this analyser in place at Hampshire Hospitals will mean a quicker referral of patients with bowel cancer symptoms for further testing to determine if they have bowel cancer. The device used to collect the faecal sample is discreet and means that it can be processed directly by the analyser. The time from when we receive the sample to when we release a result will be greatly reduced and ultimately result in a quicker cancer diagnosis for those tested.
