to hear from Stephen Tristram, Associate Specialist in the Department of Surgery at Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust, about the Vascular Ultrasound and how it will benefit patients across Hampshire.

At Basingstoke & North Hampshire Hospital, the Vascular Service use two outpatient Sonosite Duplex scanners. One belongs not to the department but to one of the doctors who brings this equipment to outpatients and uses this for domiciliary visits.

The scanner owned by the Trust is over 12 years old, and is no longer supported by the manufacturers. The department urgently requires a new scanner to continue the service.

The machine will be used on at least 3 days per week and available for use on around 80 to 90 patients per week.

Sonosite ultrasounds are very robust pieces of equipment and ideal for use in a busy out-patient department. These enable patients to have their veins marked precisely for bypass, and this requires a good image resolution of these veins in order to assess the circulation accurately for patients, and is a process completed on nearly all vascular patients who attend clinic.
