New Elastography machine in practice!

Last year saw the arrival of an incredible Elastography machine, purchased as a result of funds donated to the Hampshire Medical Fund. Terry Watkins, Consultant Sonographer & Modality Lead of NOUS for Hampshire Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust tells us how it is helping patients in our local hospitals:
The wonderful addition of this state of the art ultrasound machine has significantly increased the overall quality of diagnostic imaging that Non-obstetric Ultrasound patients receive at Hampshire Hospitals. It has benefitted a myriad of non-obstetric ultrasound subspecialties with an even greater increased benefit to those people requiring liver/elastography scans.
Elastography is an exciting new imaging application which enables an ultrasound practitioners to utilise sound waves to grade potential fibrotic change to the liver tissue.  This was historically done by performing far more invasive procedures such as biopsies.  Patient’s can now arrive for a suitably prepared ultrasound scan and can be in an out within as quick as 20 minutes with minimal prep and anxiety thanks to the purchase of this exciting new technology.
