Funds raised towards this project will help with the purchase of a new Specialist Bath for Paediatric Respite Services. This specialist bath at Firvale will enable children with profound physical disabilities and complex care needs to bathe safely. Currently, the centre only has access to a shower trolley. Firvale provides a nurse-led respite service for children with complex health needs within the Hampshire Hospitals Foundation Trust footprint, allowing parents, carers, and siblings valuable time away from their usual caring duties. The specialist bath would provide children with a significantly more comfortable experience when being bathed during their stay with a therapeutic multi-jet air spa to help with increased tone and spasticity. Bathing before bed has also been shown to have a calming effect for those with sleep disorders which is common in children with complex healthcare needs. Chromotherapy lighting provides a relaxing sensory experience for this cohort of children.
